Christianity

Christianity is the world’s largest religion. It is estimated there are about 2.1 billion followers worldwide. (It is an umbrella term that comprises many different branches and denominations  who normally accept the major Christian beliefs). It is based on the teachings of Jesus Christ who lived in the Holy Land 2,000 years ago.

Christianity teaches that there is only one living and true God who made the universe and the earth. He also created Adam and Eve, the first man and woman, in the garden of Eden. Christians believe that God is the creator of all people, the world, the universe, and everything seen and unseen. This is based on different Bible passages, including the first book of the Bible, Genesis.

Christians believe that God is a Trinity - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, (not three Gods); that there is God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son - the second person and the third person is the Holy Spirit.

Christians believe that Jesus the Son of God is one with God ( In John 10:30 the Apostle John quotes Jesus as saying, "I and the Father are one.") and that He came to this world to be our Saviour. (An angel told Joseph, “you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” Matthew ch.1:21)

Jesus suffered for our sins and was crucified. He was falsely accused of being an anti-government rebel. He was brought to Pontius Pilate to be judged. Pilate gave the command for Him to be crucified. He was mocked, beaten, taunted and crucified. (Matthew 27:23-56)

Jesus died and was buried in a tomb owned by a man named Joseph of Arimathea. Joseph took Jesus’ body down from the cross, wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, and placed it in his own new tomb and sealed it with a big stone.

In three days Jesus rose from the dead and appeared to His disciples. He made many appearances over the next forty days “and gave convincing proofs that he was alive.” Acts ch.1:3

After forty days Jesus ascended into Heaven. He was with His disciples and then suddenly, “he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.” Acts ch. 1:9  Now He is seated at the right hand of God the Father. "After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God.” Mark ch. 16:19

However, Jesus will return. The disciples were told, “Men of Galilee why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.” Acts ch. 1:11. This is great news for every follower of Jesus, for every Christian to look forward to.

Everyone can be prepared to meet Jesus Christ when He returns, for we are told, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John ch. 1:9.  We are also told, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." John ch.3:16

This is what Christians believe.
