The Award Scheme
The Scottish Junior CE Award Scheme is based on the concept of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme. The Awards are to encourage and for most of them the criteria for achievement is the good effort and positive attitude by the Junior as they work through the requirements. The motives behind them are the qualities of loyalty, commitment and caring for others as they live their every day Christian life serving Christ and the Church.
Role of the Leader
Many of these Awards can be obtained by the Juniors participating in the weekly meeting. You may find it beneficial to have a Leader solely responsible for the Award Scheme and to discuss at a meeting which Awards to tackle and how to organise the Juniors. A chart of the weekly meeting participants will help record individual’s work. The Awards can be part of the meeting every week, or as a project on a theme for a short spell.
Age Limit
Leaders should guide their Juniors to the subjects most suitable for them. Some subjects are best tackled by the more mature child, others lend themselves to all age groups. The older Junior who is transferring to a Young People’s society may continue the Scheme in YPCE.
The Certificates
These are A4 PDF and are available to all affiliated CE Groups in Scotland. They can then be collected in a ten pocketed display book for each Junior.
Christian Endeavour History
Help Juniors to find out all about the history of Christian Endeavour, which began in 1881 in Portland, Maine in the United States. You can download these PDF pages and create a workbook. This workbook is designed so that over several weeks the Junior will illustrate the life of Francis Edward Clark, the founder of the Christian Endeavour Movement and learn why he became known as Father Endeavour Clark. Christian Endeavour Principles
This information will help Leaders and Juniors to understand the basics and concepts of Christian Endeavour. They will be the core of what happens regularly in the life of your CE group.
- The Weekly Devotional Meeting: Think about the ingredients of a varied, balanced Meeting.
- The Christian Endeavour Promise: Think about the content of the Aims and the CE Promise.
- Promise Making: The content of the special Meeting when Promises are renewed and challenges made to accept the demands of a loving Saviour.
- Group Work: How to organise small working groups (committees) which have special jobs and different tasks. Worksheets can be worked on using this information by those taking part in the Scottish Award scheme. For the Award Scheme, discuss over several weeks the four basic principles of CE and complete a simple assessment paper.
